Apple Watch
The Cupertino computer company in collaboration with Hermes creates a new collection of Apple Watch featuring hand-stitched leather straps and new watch face. The new collection will be available in October, but prices are yet to be announced. Customers will have the option to get the Apple Watch in new different finishes, including gold and rose gold, and with different color bands. Apple also announced watchOS 2 which will arrive in September 16th. The new release includes a number of changes and improvements, and third-party integration for messaging apps such as Facebook Messenger and AirStrip.
iPad Pro
On an attempt to fightback Microsoft’s Surface Pro 3, Apple is coming out with the iPad Pro. It’s a larger 12.9-inch iPad designed with professionals in mind, but it’s also optimized for gaming; it features a full software keyboard and features multitasking capabilities. The iPad Pro packs a new A9x 64-bit processor, stunning 2732 x 2048 pixels display resolution, the company claims 10 hours of battery life, weighs only 1.5 pounds, measures 6.9 mm to its thickest point, and there is an 8-megapixel camera. The tablet will be available in November. Prices starts at $799 for 32GB of storage, $949 for 128GB, and $1079 for the 128GB with cellular connectivity. Of course, there is also the smart keyboard accessory that attaches to the tablet using magnets, which seems very similar to the Surface TypeCover, and it costs $169. In addition, the iPad Pro also has a stylus, which the company calls Apple Pencil that you have to recharge using the Lighting port, and it costs $99. Apple also announced the iPad mini 4 which will cost $399.
Apple TV
The Cupertino computer company finally unveiled the new Apple TV. For the new device, Apple has created the tvOS, which features an easy to navigate user-interface, 3D effects, and Siri voice control to access movies, TV series, and music. Siri for tvOS allows you to search by categories, titles, cast, and more. Searches are sort by popularity and where the content is available to stream. The Apple TV ships with the Siri Remote that connects via Bluetooth 4.0 and the company claims three months of battery life on a single charge. The remote incorporates a trackpad that allows you to easily swipe left to right or scroll up and down. There is also a dedicated Siri button that you can press at any time to ask the assistant anything you need, from what movies to watch, to weather, game scores, and a lot more. One feature I have found really interesting is that you can ask Siri, “What did she say?” during a video playback, and it will rewind that particular part and turn on close captioning briefly to help you on what was said. Developers are already building apps for the new Apple TV, some early apps include Netflix, HBO, Hulu, ActiVision, Harmonix, Gilt, Zillow, and Airbnb. Of course, you can play games from the Apple Store in your new tvOS device and you can use the remote as a controller. The Apple TV packs an A8 processor, 2GB of RAM, up to 64GB of internal storage, and 802.11ac Wi-Fi connectivity. The device will cost $149 for 32GB and $199 for 64GB, and it will be available in October.
iPhone 6s and 6s Plus
The event couldn’t be complete without new iPhone handsets. According to the company there has been a tremendous effort to design the new phones. While they look very identical to their predecessors, the new devices are more durable and they feature a new display with 3D Touch technology which enables new gestures, such as pressing an app to access shortcuts or hard press and hold to get a preview content. The iPhone 6s and 6s Plus pack the new A9 processor, which improves performance by 70 percent and 90 percent better graphics than the previous model. The new phones come pre-loaded with iOS 9 and current users will be able to get their hands on the new operating system on September 16th. Similar to Cortana for Windows 10, iOS 9 includes “Hey Siri” integration that will let you invoke the assistant without having to press and hold the home button. The back camera is now 12-megapixel and you can record video in 4K resolution. The new camera also includes a Live Photos feature that combines multiple images to create a short video, similar to GIF, when you press and hold down the image. iPhone 6s will be priced at $199 for 16GB and iPhone 6s Plus will be priced at $299 for 16GB. In addition, Apple is introducing an upgrade program that allows customers to upgrade their phone every year as long as they pay $32 per month.
