While SP1 can help you keep your computer up to date, in this Windows Service Pack there are not new features for Windows 7; this release contains all the updates already available on Windows Update for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008. The only new features that were added in SP1 are for the server side and they are virtualization related features: Dynamic Memory, which enables servers running Hyper-V for server virtualization to adjust dynamically Virtual Machine memory usage based on demand, making the server more efficient, and RemoteFX, which allows to deliver a local like experience for remote users through Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI)....

Another new piece of information about Windows 8.1 Update 1 is that Microsoft is planning to reduce the memory and disk space requirements to install the operating system, changes that will make Windows better suited for low-cost and small tablets. Early this week we’ve seen leak screenshots for Windows 8.1 Update 1, which highlighted a new a new option that will let users pin modern apps to the desktop’s taskbar....

Chuck Chan, Vice President of the Windows Development team at Microsoft wrote an article on a new blog called “Windows Hardware and Driver Development Blog”, in which he says “We’re very excited to make available today the Windows 8 Release Preview”, and the post was signed and dated “Chuck Chan, May 31st”. However, the company hasn’t shared any official details of what features will be available for these devices, which pretty much we’re specifically talking about the Surface RT, Surface 2, and the Nokia Lumia 2520. Today, WinBeta reports that Microsoft is working to bring the Start menu to Windows RT with “Update 3”, but it won’t be the Start menu we’re seeing today in Windows 10....

In version 1.5, the Windows Terminal introduces mark mode, scroll marks, PowerShell removes the black bars patch, and several other improvements and fixes. Mark mode Starting with the release, you can select content with the keyboard using the “Ctrl + Shift + M” keyboard shortcut. When in “mark mode,” you can use the arrow keys to move to the starting position, then you can hold the “Shift” key and use the arrow keys to make your selection....

The only caveat is that it’s currently only available with an invitation. If you have an invitation from Microsoft to participate in this initial trial, you can head over to xbox.com/play on Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, or Safari to play over 100 Xbox game titles on Windows 10 or iOS. Although you will be using a web browser, instead of streaming directly into an app, you’ll be able to connect a compatible USB or Bluetooth controller or touch controls to play the games....

You can think of it as Netflix for gaming, but the only caveat is that you only get access to a select number of games. At the time of this writing, Microsoft is advertising over 500 high-quality titles. However, new games will continue to be added regularly, and you even get exclusive discounts. In this update, the company is introducing several features and changes for the dashboard that will be also available for the upcoming Xbox Series X and across the Xbox ecosystem of apps. The Guide has been redesigned to be less clutter and easier to read. It includes a new layout that is easier to navigate between your most recent activities. Also, there’s even a new option to change the order of tabs, and at the bottom of the page, you’ll find new button for utilities like notifications, search, and audio settings....

According to a new report recently published at The Verge, the documents detailing the plan said “Android TV is an entertainment interface, not a computing platform.” “It’s all about finding and enjoying content with the least amount of friction”, Google says. The company is asking developers to build apps that are simple and requesting that users should be able to get to the content they want to watch in less than 3 clicks or gestures....

In terms of tech specs, you can’t expect much for a $199 machine. The August 2016 firmware update brings driver updates for Surface Pro 4 and Surface Book running the Windows 10 Anniversary Update.
