According to a new report from Mary Jo Foley at ZDNet, it may take up to three months for Microsoft to complete the rollout of the Anniversary Update. The information comes from a Microsoft email to customers (see below) that Mary was able to obtain, which included a footnote detailing the rollout timeframe.
Rollout delay was expected
This news shouldn’t come as a surprise, Microsoft has said many times that major updates, such as the Windows 10 Anniversary Update, will roll out to customers slowly. Usually, the software giant begins the roll out of a new update to Surface devices, followed by computers that originally came with Windows 10, and then everyone else. The primary reason is because of problems during the rollout, and there have been many issues since the Anniversary Update became available. For example, many users reported freezing issues, webcams not working, settings not migrating correctly, blue screen of death using e-readers, and many other issues. Now Microsoft seems to be slowing down the delivery of version 1607. It’s doing so to closely monitor and fix any issue before it reaches to more customers. This means that if your device hasn’t been updated there could be a good reason.
